George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were
two great presidents with different views that shared a similar hobby. They
both enjoyed gardening and their love of nature had an influence over their
presidencies. Gardening was important to them and they wanted others to
appreciate the beauty of it all. They both used gardening as a way to relieve
stress. Jefferson used gardening as an outlet and therefore that helped him
through his presidential duties when times got tough.
Both presidents had different views on what
the Capitol should look like. George Washington had a view of a large city, with
a strong central government. This is basically the set up for Washington D.C. The
big busy populous area was what George Washington envisioned. Being from
Maryland, I enjoy D.C. and the how it is set up. There’s always something on
every corner with lots of things to do. The city is diverse with a ton of
people, culture and political views. Jefferson wanted a small federal government
with a more powerful state government. He wanted the states to focus on what
their people wanted as opposed to larger federal government. He wanted a small country town feel. I do not
think this would have worked out. I feel as though a small town feel would have
rapidly changed over the years to a more urban populated society. People
interested in politics are going to go where all of which is going on. This
would bring a melting pot of people. All different ages and political
backgrounds would be there. I feel like this would urbanize the small town to
something similar to the current Washington D.C. In these modern times of
today, I do not believe that the country town look would remain as just that.
George Washington and Thomas Jefferson have very different views of what the
capitol should look like. As well as the feeling that should be felt as one
visits. Jefferson wanted a less commercial and busy feel. While Washington
wanted an urban, populous feel.
Jefferson enjoyed the look of the University
of Virginia, Monticello, and the Poplar Forest. Those are just a few places
that he rely enjoyed. The artistry and landscape design of these places
fascinated him. Jefferson loved his home in Monticello and the beautiful
landscape. Jefferson enjoyed nature so much that he used it in his political views.
The preservation of nature was very important to him. He wanted to promote the
importance of nature. Jefferson expressed himself best through nature and his
gardening. He did not like being trapped inside. This shows that he was
creative and loved the outdoors. Some people do not mind being stuck inside all
day while others cannot stand it. Both enjoyed a beautiful landscape with
plants and gardens. They just had different visions of what they wanted to see.
I think that if Jefferson visions were pursued the capitol would be very
different.
