Baton Rouge

Thomas Jeffersons purchase of land named Louisiana has been one of the boldest moves by an american president in American history. Purchased the land from France for about $30 million dollars from Napoleon. In todays market that equates to about $250 million dollars. The question that came to mind is would America today spend that amount of money for the land today? Personally i think that the money would be forfeited to gain this land because it has brought great joy to this country. Back to the history and this being a bold choice to buy this land. The land bought is equated to 15 states today and two Canadian providences. The purchase was in part a goal for Jefferson because of the port located in present day New Orleans for trades and import/exports. It was seen as unconstitutional by the colonies.

Manifest destiny. Expand westward. This is Thomas Jeffersons main point during his time as president. He wanted to show the world that America will not just be a smart sliver of land but a expanding as far west as possible getting away from British rule. Jefferson was raised as a farmer much like Washington and not like John Adams. Jefferson wanted things to represent moving away from Britain and moving westward.

The decision to buy the land occupied by Napoleon Bonaparte has forever changed the landscape for America. This new land brought more resources and more desire to see how far west the states can go. Jeffersons choice to buy the land has given future America, now, a idea in trading and how to use the resources provided by the land.
